We all know that adults don't always obey the rules, but teenagers make a habit of it! "Why ??" is the constant question posed to parents who want a record book to be filled in regularly, or who try to limit sweet foods consumed after a hypo to reasonable limits, instead of amounts which will produce a blood sugar in excess of 20mmol/l.
Teenagers push the boundaries in every area of life and teenagers with diabetes can be even more manipulative. A fussy teenager can refuse to eat his dinner and then demand another kind of carbohydrate from that provided by his parent, "otherwise I will have a hypo and die!" Life can be very challenging, but then we were all teenagers once, so maybe this is pay back time? Mind you I didn't have diabetes until much later, so I never put my parents through this kind of test.
Know what you mean, I have a teenager (14) who has had diabetes since he was 22 month old plus I also have diabetes. But to make matters worse he also has coeliac disease (an allergy to wheat based products) which can sometimes make some carbs uneatable to him.
Trying to get him to complete his diary on a regular basis is like pulling teeth. I must admit like you I was not diagnosed until I was 21 thus I did not put my parents through it either. I must have done something wrong either in a previous life or I'm not liked in this one.

Why not plan, suggest, or cook up high-dietary fiber meals and snacks for your kids that is good in combating diabetes? There are numerous recipes posted in the internet that are healthy as well as sumptuously delicious. One such ingredient is flax seed that is boosted with omega-3, antioxidants, and dietary fiber that can relieve symptoms of diabetes. Either whole or ground form, flax seed can be used as an alternative to any food treat you can have with your family.

Please excuse the comment but I couldn't find any other way to contact you.
I hope all is well and you're having a great day.
I came across your website while browsing around and I was wondering if you'd like to do a product review for our diabetic socks found at www.choicediabeticsocks.com.
If you're interested we'd love to know what you think about them and I'm sure your readers would find value in it as well.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi,
7.9% of the United States population is suffering from a form of Diabetes. That is over 23 million people! Now, more than ever, it is important for organizations such as yourself. We here, at Disease.com (a site dedicated towards disease and their treatments), believe in the work you do and would like to coincide for the fight against diabetes. If you could, please list us as a resource or host our social book mark button, it would be much appreciated. Separately, we can make advancements, but together we can find a cure.
If you need more information please email me back with the subject line as your URL.
Thank You,
Sharon Vegoe

In many cases type 2 diabetes is preventable by choosing a healthy lifestyle and keeping the weight down. Sometimes though it happens and we have to accept and just manage it.
I feel sorry for teenagers these days. I'm old enough to remember days when there wasn't any fast food outlets and we always had a healthy balanced meat and veg dinner - sweets were a treat on saturdays when we got our pocket money. There's so much pressure from every angle on them, even their friends have parties in fast food joints!!

Out of curiosity, where did you end up finding your source for the post? Was it the top of your head? Either way you obviously know your stuff ;-)
I say that because my girl found out the hardway when she was 12 she was Type I Diabetic. She dropped crazy weight at once and one day just collapsed and found her way into a diabetic coma (?) but luckily came out.

Interesting. I find that some teens make it a lifestyle. They make sure that they control the diabetes, rather then vice versa.
